ASHEVILLE – North Carolina consumers can take a few lessons from a recent report listing the top 10 types of consumer complaints in the state.
First and foremost, local and state experts say, is the old adage “buyer beware.” Consumers should take their time and understand what they’re getting into when entering any business agreement. And remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
“If it’s too good to be true, take the time to research it and ask,” said Victor Moore, counseling director with OnTrack, a nonprofit financial education and counseling agency in Asheville. “We’re a free resource. There are other resources where you can get answers — the Attorney General is a good resource to say here’s the exact company, tell me what you know. They keep a log of these complaints.”
